Journey To Witchland

Shortfilm screenplay

INT. PAINTING STUDIO

The painting studio is spacious and well lit. In the room
there is a predomination of warm colors. On the walls we see
paintings of a girl in different places and idyllic
situations.
In the center of the room Luna (8 years old, wearing
comfortable clothes and bare feet), the girl of the
paintings, is sitting on a chair, moving her legs back and
forth as she looks around. In front of her there is a canvas
on an easel.
Amalia enters through the door (Luna's mother, appears to be
in her early thirties, wears a light T-shirt covered in
paint stains and has her hair tied up in a hasty bun).

AMALIA
I see you are ready.

LUNA
Yes

AMALIA
Have you been waiting long?

LUNA
A lot!

Luna opens her arms to empathize how long she has been
waiting for.
Amalia laughs and approaches to the table where she has her
utensils, picks up a piece of charcoal and sits in front of
the canvas.

AMALIA
(still laughing)
Okay, okay, I'm sorry. And where does
your majesty want to travel today?

LUNA
Hmmmm... to Witchland!

(Printed with the demonstration version of Fade In)

AMALIA
So Witchland ... and what's there?

LUNA
(accompanying the
descriptions with
large hand gestures)

Well, there are green fields... There
are castles... Oh, and a very ugly
and small but very good ogre called
Tomato.

AMALIA
Tomato the ogre?! hmmm... yeah, I
think I can see him...

Amalia starts painting in the canvas as Luna describes
Witchland.

LUNA
And there are also green dolphins
that fly around a very big castle...

AMALIA

And who is in the castle? A princess
who has to be rescued from a
dangerous dragon?

Amalia gestures imitating a dragon that opens its jaws and
launches to tickle Luna. They both laugh and Amalia sits
down in front of the canvas again.

LUNA
No, princesses are dumb.

AMALIA
(laughing)
I understand... so what's in the
castle?

LUNA
There are witches, but they are the
good ones, not the green ones with
warts. They make cheese... they help
the people of the town... and once
there was a witch so brave that...

MALE VOICE
Luna, dinner is ready!

Luna stops in the middle of one of her grandiose gestures,
look at her mother and laughs. Amalia looks back at her
tenderly.

AMALIA

Come on, don't keep your father
waiting.

LUNA
I'm goiiiing.

Luna stands up of her chair and starts to run, but her
mother gently grabs her by the arm and pulls her close. She
gives her a kiss and a photo.

AMALIA
I love you darling.

LUNA
I love you too Mom.

Luna runs out the door. As Luna walks out the door we see
what the room is really like, it's dark except for a few
small bluish-white beams of light coming in through the
windows. The room is dusty and the chair in front of the
canvas is empty.

2.INT. LIVING ROOM

In the living room the table is set, Luna runs in and hugs
her father (Charles, in his early thirties, wears a pale
shirt with the sleeves rolled up and outside of his jeans,
he wears an apron over the shirt). He hugs her back.

CHARLES
Come on, to the table.

Clara runs to sit at the table and puts the photo her mother
gave her in the next place.

CHARLES (cont'd)
And what is that?

LUNA
Mom.

The father looks at the photo, in it the three of them are
together in a theme park, Charles was sunburned and have a
weird face, Luna was dressed as a princess and Amalia as a
witch. Tears fill Charles eyes, he smiles at Clara and
kisses her on the head. Then both of them sit at the table
with the food. Charles sniffles a little.

CHARLES
(in a slightly shaky
voice)
Well, what have you done today?

LUNA
Today I have traveled to Witchland...
(She tells him about the trip she has
made with her mother)

While Clara and her father talk and laugh, we return to the
photo of the three of them in the theme park.
